Igor Akinfeev and his "Football Land" foundation present a new dynamic youth format of universally appealed game - KeeperВall
Domestic football tradition is a strong goalkeepers' school. Names of the best goalkeepers of our land have become the part of world's football history.
The evidence of recognition of domestic goalkeepers' school was the establishment of the special annual award named after legendary Lev Yashin by the French journal France Football for awarding of the world's best goalkeeper which was presented for the first time on the 2nd of December 2019 during a traditional official ceremony of FIFA dedicated to the Golden Ball presentation. .
Igor Akinfeev points out: "The purpose of KeeperBall is to popularize our outstanding goalkeepers' achievements among young people, preserve continuance of domestic goalkeepers' school traditions and search for new talents...".
KeeperBall game format provides for 2 periods of 15-minute "net time", limitation of ball possession time and on the top of that is winner definition in the series of 7 penalty shootouts. Series of shootouts is performed taking into account the team playing in regulation: team win with the difference of 1 to 3 shots is considered as one penalty rifled in the series, with difference of more than 3 shots is considered as 2 rifled penalties. Therefore, goalkeeper's playing becomes decisive and viewer can experience an intrigue in struggle between field players and goalkeeper many times.
"When we address Russian football history, - Igor Akinfeev continues, - we find that virtually all goalkeepers capped by national teams of the USSR and Russia in World and Europe championships represented Moscow football clubs at that point in time: Aleksey Khomich, Lev Yashin, Vladimir Pilguy, Alexander Uvarov - Dinamo, Vladimir Maslachenko, Rinat Dasaev, Stanislav Cherchesov - Spartak, Anzor Kavazashvili - Torpedo and Spartak, Ruslan Nigmatullin, Sergey Ovchinnikov - Lokomotiv, Dmitry Kharin, Vladimir Gabulov - CSKA…
Therefore, Moscow is the center of Soviet and Russian goalkeepers' traditions, a real
"Goalkeepers' capital".
Igor Akinfeev appealed to the Government of Moscow on behalf of Football Land foundation with a suggestion to take the first KeeperВall event presentation involving youth football teams of the capital administrative districts in the territory of Luzhniki after cancellation of all sanitary-and-epidemiologic limitations.
This suggestion met with a response from the city authorities.
Support from Moscow as a global capital which brilliantly organized the World Championship 2018 as well as a broad international recognition of domestic goalkeepers' school give reason to believe that original conception of KeeperBall by Igor Akinfeev designed to increase young people's interest to football as an active form of leisure activity and healthy lifestyle will quickly become popular in Russia and abroad.
